Observations on Sitting, Monkey and Hands-on Work

This workshop is fully booked. Please email if you wish to be put on a waiting list for any cancellations.

This practical workshop will cover some general observations made in the course of Jean’s teaching. Our overall aim is not one of position, but of maximum expansion, length, width, and release at any given moment. While sitting the consideration is how to balance on the sitting bones in such a way that neither the legs, pelvis or lower back are doing more than necessary. This will differ from pupil to pupil. In Alexander’s early teaching he would tilt people forward from the hips when sitting (without taking them out of the chair); also for hands on the back of the chair. We will look at the advantages and difficulties of this. We will also look at the basics of monkey for the purpose of making it effortless, the use of the tilt (or roll) from the hip joints, both when sitting and standing, and putting all of it together for hands-on work.

£45.00. Teachers only. Sunday 11 am – 3 pm. (Half hour lunch.) Limited to 7 participants.

Sunday 22nd January 2017.
