Inside Out!

A workshop inspired by the Alexander Technique with Joseph Sanders and Fiona Bryan.

For wind and brass players and singers, professionals and students,
and Alexander Technique teachers

Between them Joe and Fiona have worked for all the major orchestras in London and the UK. They have extensive experience as chamber musicians, with ballet and opera companies and in the theatre.
They both came to the Alexander Technique for personal reasons, Fiona in response to a car accident, Joe, as a student thinking: “ playing the oboe must be easier than this.” Both agree that the technique has been an invaluable tool helping them to navigate the various challenges of life as a performing musician.

In our day of practical work, we will explore inside the body- freedom and release, balance and alignment in preparation for optimum breathing and support – and also what happens around us in the performance situation. These are the inside and outside of our working title.

We will work on strategies, including spacial awareness exercises, for maintaining and developing better use of ourselves while we engage more fully with performing. Our aim is to link expressive gesture to more ease of doing. Importantly, we will also be looking at what might be getting in our way especially when under pressure.

There will be plenty opportunity for individual and group work and we welcome questions and discussion.
Please bring instruments and music to perform.
