The Alexander Technique

F.M. Alexander

As a young man, FM Alexander experienced hoarseness in his voice and difficulty with his breathing during performance. When doctors proved unable to help him with these troubles, he embarked on a long process of self observation. Many aspects of this self study deserve consideration, but, to simplify, he discovered a new scientific principle with respect to the control of human behaviour.

The principle lay in no striving for ideals or theory. Instead, it lay in the discovery that behaviour is most effectively controlled by the development of the conscious powers of reason and intelligence.
