Teacher Biographies
Ruth Murray
Ruth Murray trained with Walter Carrington from 1977 - 80 and has been teaching at The Constructive Teaching Centre for the last twenty nine years. She took over as the Head of Training of the school in 2005, where she also has a private practice.
Alan Philps
Alan Philps trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia and he moved to London to study voice with Florence Norberg in 1976. At this time, he came across the Alexander Technique. He trained with Walter and Dilys Carrington from 1983-85 and has worked on the course since then. Alan continues to present voice workshops internationally. Each week Alan conducts voice work with a gathering of the whole school as well as teaching students individually and in small groups. He was appointed assistant head of training in 2008. He has a private practice at the Constructive Teaching Centre as well as Wedmore, Somerset.
Beryl Tollady
Beryl trained with Walter and Dilys Carrington at the Constructive Teaching Centre from 1983 to 1986. Since qualifying, she has taught on the CTC training course continuously, and is now responsible for First Year teaching during two days of the week. She has been part of the CTC team on teacher refresher courses at Lansdowne Road and at International congress workshops. In addition she teaches private pupils at the CTC and in Hampstead, London.
Gloria Pullan
Gloria Pullan trained under Walter and Dilys Carrington from 1981-1983. She has given Alexander Technique equestrian saddle workshops around the UK and internationally. When the students reach the 9th term, Gloria takes them in small groups to share her experience of working with pupils in the riding saddle. She maintains a private practice in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

Annie Sayer
Annie Sayer is a graduate of The Constructive Teaching Centre, where she is now the administrator. She teaches at the school and from her home in North London. She is also currently teaching at the Women's Centre in Kentish Town.
Angus Antley
Angus Antley trained under Walter Carrington at the Constructive Teaching Centre from 2003-2005. Since graduating in 2005, he has been working steadily with private pupils as well as several acting schools in the London area. Angus is also working part-time on a phd concerning movement in immersive virtual environments. His private practice is based in Maida Vale and at the Constructive Teaching Centre.

Colin Beattie
Colin Beattie trained with Walter and Dilys Carrington from 1998 to 2001. He has been a weekly teacher at The Constructive Teaching Centre since 2003 when he also began the Using Ourselves in Water (link to events page) course, drawing on his experience as a competitive swimmer and swimming teacher. He works in private practice in London, Hitchin, Hertfordshire and Belfast, N.Ireland.

Jackie Coote
Jackie Coote was introduced to the Alexander Technique in 1992, while working as a casting director and photographic stylist in advertising and television. Having benefited greatly from the Technique, she trained with Walter and Dilys Carrington from 1996 to 1998 and has taught continuously on the training course at the Constructive Teaching Centre since 2004. Jackie has also taught the Alexander Technique at Kensington and Chelsea College, and currently maintains a private practice in Fulham as well as regularly leading introductory workshops.

Gerald Foley
Gerald Foley learned of the Alexander Technique after a career in engineering and renewable energy consultancy. Gerald trained at the Constructive Teaching Centre where he qualified in 2002. Gerald delivers a fortnightly talk at the CTC on the life and work of the prominent scientists and other famous figures who have been associated with the Technique. He also discusses some of the basic physics and mechanics underlying the Technique. Copies of all these talks are available on his website. He runs a private teaching practice in Chiswick.

Bobbie Gallagher
Bobbie Gallagher was a journalist suffering from RSI when she had her first Alexander Technique lesson in 1994. She began her training at the Alexander Re-education Centre in Berkshire and continued it with post-graduate work with Walter Carrington and others at the Constructive Teaching Centre. Her private practice is located at 36 Hyde Park Square, London W2, but she also teaches privately at the Constructive Teaching Centre in Holland Park and Sidbury, Devon.

Stuart Grant
Stuart Grant trained at the Constructive Teaching Centre and qualified in 2001. He has taught the technique at various locations, including Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and the Alexander Technique Centre, City of London. He currently teaches privately at the Constructive Teaching Centre, Holland Park.

Hellen Heaton-Takayama
After a career as a professional ‘cellist, Hellen Heaton-Takayama trained at the Constructive Teaching Centre with Walter and Dilys Carrington from 1981 to 1985. During this time Hellen had her first son, with the second arriving 1987. She has taught at the Constructive Teaching Centre since 1998 and runs a private practice in south east London.
Angie Herzberg
Angie trained in classical ballet, modern and contemporary dance; she went on to work professionally in theatre, television and film for ten years. She then studied film and photography working in the industry before training at CTC with Walter and Dilys Carrington, she qualified sixteen years ago. Angie happily teaches at CTC once a week and also teaches at LAMDA, a hospital unit for eating disorders as well as running a private practice from home in W2. Angie is continually inspired by the potential of applying the Alexander Technique to transform unhelpful patterns of thought and activity into a constructive way of living.
Duncan Knowles
Duncan trained under Walter and Dilys Carrington, graduating from the Constructive Teaching Centre in the Autumn of 2001. Since qualifying he has taught the Alexander Technique at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts where he is a Senior Tutor. He also has a private practice in Putney, South West London. Duncan has worked as an actor in theatre, radio and television and works as a producer and director in London and New York. As well as teaching at CTC Duncan has organized and directed the school’s ‘Shakespeare in the Garden’ since 1999.
Quintin Norris
Quintin Norris trained with Walter and Dilys from 1995 to 1997. Previous to this he had trained as a professional actor. Since 1997, he has taught on the training course at the Constructive Teaching Centre. He also has a private practice in Fleet, Hampshire.

Danny Pevsner
Danny Pevsner trained with Walter and Dilys at Lansdowne Road starting in 1978 and finishing in 1982. He is a fellow of the British Horse Society and has trained with the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, Austria. He specializes in teaching Alexander Technique to horse riders and has a private practice in Hertfordshire.
Thomas Pope
Thomas Pope teaches from his home in Tufnell Park, North London.
Chris Sargent
Chris Sargent was formerly a jazz musician and IT systems analyst. He started taking Alexander lessons in 1997 and took regular lessons with first generation teachers Peggy Williams and Elisabeth Walker. He trained at the Centre with Walter Carrington and Ruth Murray from 2003 to 2006. Since qualifying he has assisted on the training course and gives private lessons at the Centre. He has also taught at Italia Conti drama school, and the London College of Theatre Studies.
Joe Searby
Joe trained at The Constructive Teaching Centre 1992-1995 and since qualifying has been lucky enough to work on the training course every Friday. Joe was a professional actor from 1981 - 2003 and each week he takes small groups of students for voice work. He runs a private practice from home in Burford, Oxfordshire and is the resident Alexander teacher at The Oxford School of Drama. Joe has a particular interest in bicycles and has worked with many bike riders to help them get the most out of cycling.

Sara Solnick
Sara Solnick trained at the Constructive Teaching Centre and qualified in 2000. Since 2001, she has taught on the teacher training course at Lansdowne Road. She has taught Alexander Technique to children in Godolphin and Latymer School, and Latymer Upper Schools, in Hammersmith. She currently teaches on the Using Ourselves in Water course with Colin Beattie. She also maintains a private practice in West London.
